This policy explains how Homebody Bots handles personal data when you use homebodybots.com, and what rights you have under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). The short answer: we collect as little as we can. There are no forms, accounts, analytics or advertising trackers. Like any website, our server keeps short-lived technical logs, and if you email us we keep your email so we can reply.

Who we are

Homebody Bots is a trading name of Pumpkin Web Design Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 07992241), registered office 1 Starkie Chambers, Lancaster Road, Preston, England, PR1 1DA.

Pumpkin Web Design Ltd is the data controller for the personal data covered by this policy. We're registered with the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commission (formerly the Information Commissioner's Office, still known as the ICO), under registration reference ZA906754.

The short version

  • There are no forms, accounts, comments or newsletter, and we don't use analytics.
  • We don't set any cookies for ordinary visitors, and we don't run advertising trackers.
  • Our server keeps short-lived technical logs, including IP addresses, to keep the site secure.
  • Purchases happen on Amazon, under Amazon's own privacy notice. When you click an affiliate link, Amazon may set its own cookies on its site.
  • If you choose to email us, we use your email only to reply.
  • We never sell personal data.

If you email us

If you choose to email [email protected], we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write.

  • Why: only to read and reply to your message.
  • Lawful basis: legitimate interests (answering people who get in touch).
  • How long we keep it: up to 12 months after our last reply, then we delete it. We keep it longer only if we need it to deal with a complaint or legal claim.
  • Where it's stored: our email inbox, provided by Fasthosts in the UK, which handles it for us as our processor.

When you click a link to Amazon

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Links marked "View on Amazon" are affiliate links that include our tracking ID.

  • Buying happens on Amazon: any purchase is between you and Amazon, under Amazon's own Privacy Notice and Cookies Notice on amazon.co.uk.
  • Amazon's cookies: once you're on Amazon's site, Amazon may set its own cookies, including one that credits us if you buy something.
  • Who controls that data: Amazon is a separate controller of any data it collects on its own site, and may process it outside the UK under its own safeguards. See the Privacy Notice and Cookies Notice on amazon.co.uk.
  • What we get: Amazon doesn't tell us who you are. We never see your name, address or payment details.
  • On our site: clicking an affiliate link doesn't place any cookie on homebodybots.com.

Technical server logs

Our website runs on our own server, provided in the UK by our hosting company, Team Blue Internet Services UK Limited (trading as Catalyst2). When your browser requests a page, the server automatically records basic technical details: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the page you came from and your browser type. Our firewall may also record requests it blocks.

  • Why: only to keep the site secure and working, and to find and fix faults. We don't use the logs to profile or track visitors.
  • Lawful basis: legitimate interests (running a secure, working website).
  • How long we keep them: up to 30 days, then they're deleted automatically.

Catalyst2 provides the server for us and acts as our processor.

Analytics, fonts and embedded content

We don't use any analytics tools. Our fonts and images all come from our own server, so while you're on our pages your browser doesn't contact Google Fonts or any other outside server. We don't embed YouTube videos, social media feeds or maps. You only reach another site when you click a link, such as a "View on Amazon" button.

Your animation setting

If you press Pause animations, your browser remembers that choice on your device (local storage). It isn't sent to us, doesn't identify you and isn't used for anything else. Press Play or clear your browser's site data to remove it.

Who we work with

These providers help us run the site. They act on our instructions as our processors, and don't use your data for their own purposes.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights. We never sell personal data or share it for advertising.

International transfers

We keep our website and email with UK providers, and the data we hold is stored in the UK. Our providers may sometimes use their own specialist suppliers outside the UK, for example for technical support. Where they do, they must protect your data with the safeguards UK law requires. Amazon is a separate controller for the data it collects on its own site and is responsible for its own safeguards.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • access a copy of any personal data we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct data that's wrong;
  • ask us to delete your data;
  • ask us to restrict how we use it;
  • object to us using it where we rely on legitimate interests;
  • data portability, where it applies.

In most cases the only things we might hold about you are an email you've sent us and, for a few weeks, our server logs. To use any of these rights, email [email protected] or write to us at our registered office. We'll reply within one month. It's free in most cases.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your personal data, you have the right to complain to us. Email [email protected] with "Privacy complaint" in the subject line, or write to us at our registered office. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days, look into it, keep you updated, and tell you the outcome without undue delay.

You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commission (formerly the Information Commissioner's Office, still known as the ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, helpline 0303 123 1113. It usually expects you to raise it with us first.

Children

This site is meant for adults buying robot kits. If you think a child has emailed us, contact us and we'll delete the email.

Security

The site runs over HTTPS. Access to the admin area and to our inbox is limited to the people who need it and protected by strong passwords.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page if anything changes, and change the "last updated" date at the top.
